Autumn Equinox

September 22 is the Autumn Equinox (spring in southern hemisphere) and no matter where you are on Earth, the day and night are of equal length, symbolising the balance of light and darkness.

The equinox marks the exact midpoint of the astrological year and therefore makes this the perfect time to review the year so far and then decide what you are wanting and working towards for the rest of the year.

This is also known as the Festival of Thanksgiving and Balance and is a celebration of nature’s abundance. Equinoxes are a chance for us to stop and adjust our lives, therefore it is important to try and create balance and peace now and to celebrate our achievements so far and how much we have grown over the last six months.

As it gets cooler and the days are shorter, we start to feel the changing season and with that a need to prepare for the autumn and winter months. Also with the New Moon in Virgo, I for one have felt an urge to sort out drawers, cupboard and clothes and now need to start on my paperwork!

There are many ways to celebrate this Equinox and it is the perfect time for celebrating and sharing food with friends and family. It is also a perfect time for planting seeds and bulbs to represent your dreams and hopes for the next year. Foraging is popular now and gathered twigs and leaves can be arranged in the house or made into collages or used in weaving and jewellery.

Astrologically the message of this particular equinox is about feeling positive, joyful and passionate. It is also a time to express gratitude and kindness so that we can attract the Universe’s blessings and welcome opportunities that may be gently taking roots at this time, ready for the fresh new energy of the coming year.
